Overview Dermatology is a branch of medicine that deals with problems related to the skin. Ever since the Inception of Amala IMS in 1978, dermatology has been an integral part of it. The department was revamped on June, 2005, after the hospital attained the status of a medical college, in 2003. A team of extremely skilled and dedicated dermatologists with efficient paramedical staff enrich the department.It is a constant endeavour of the department to offer the highest level of care to the attending patients of all age groups, by offering varied services such as specialty clinics, cosmetology, Dermatosurgery and Phototherapy.Along with these, the students of both UG and PG also get high exposure through various educational programmes.Well-trained staff in the Department of Dermatology at Amala IMS cater to the needs of Out Patients (OP) as well as In Patients (IP) 24x7. The Department undertakes undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, thereby preparing skilled, future-ready dermatologists. The department has Skin ICU for critically ill patients, two well-equipped Operation Theatres (OT), Laser surgery and Phototherapy facilities.

The facilities are available on all working days except Sundays and public holidays, from 8.00am to 4.00pm. This service is provided by a team of five dedicated dermatologists and a cosmetic dermatologist. Patient centered service is the goal of our outpatient facility. We provide timely and structured treatment for each patient attending our OP.
We have IP facility managed by efficient nursing staffs, who are trained in management of dermatological ailments. Working together, our doctors & nursing staff provide holistic treatment to individual patients.
Skin ICU – Dermatological emergencies , primarily various dermatoses leading to acute skin failure are managed in our skin ICU. Careful monitoring and multidisciplinary intensive care is given to patients by our dedicated team of nursing staffs and physicians , thereby reducing mortality and motility.
Dermatosurgery is an integral and essential component of current dermatology practice. The dermatosurgery unit is headed by a team of trained dermatologist and nursing staff who provide surgical treatment to patients, as well as training programme for junior residents and dermatologists from across the country.
A well-equipped dermatosurgery operation theatre with updated instruments and facilities for emergency resuscitation is present at our department.
A cosmetic dermatology unit “Radiance” was established in 2013, which functions daily during department hours. A qualified aesthetic dermatologist provides individualized and comprehensive treatment for various skin and hair ailments to patients at affordable prices.
Services offered in Radiance are:-
Phototherapy unit with facilities for NBUVB, PUVA, Bath PUVA , Hand and foot phototherapy and spot phototherapy functions from 8.00am- 4.00pm where patients with various dermatological ailments amendable to phototherapy are treated .
A skin laboratory with facilities for various staining techniques ,dermascopy , patch test facilities functions during department hours. A trained laboratory technician supervise these procedures.
