ANAESTHESIOLOGY

The department functions as the backbone of Amala Hospital extending its services to all other clinical departments. Services vary from helping out to get IV access in difficult cases to Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation. There are ten Operation Theatres functioning daily from 8.00am till the scheduled operations are over. Emergency Operations are undertaken round-the-clock under Anaesthesia coverage. All surgical departments are functioning in the Operation Theatre.

OP Timing

Pre-Anaesthesia Clinic is conducted on all days except Sunday, from 8 AM to 4 PM

Facilities

» Pre-Anaesthetic Clinic: All elective cases are evaluated and prepared in the pre-anaesthetic clinic.
» Anaesthesia in remote locations like CT Scan, MRI, Radiotherapy, Endoscopy, Modified ECT.
» Intensive Care Units: Pain relief, resuscitation, respiratory support including mechanical ventilation.
» Emergency Medicine: Resuscitation and trauma care.
» Pain and Palliative Care: Pain relief and support care are offered to terminally ill cancer patients.

Equipments

Modern Anaesthesia Machines are available in all operation theatres. Anaesthesia Ventilators are used in all operation theatres. There are several ICU Ventilators in different ICUs.

Dr. P Raghavan

Passed MBBS from Calicut Medical College in 1979, completed internship in 1980. Began career as a Junior Doctor in a multispeciality Hospital. Joined for Diploma in Anaesthesia (DA) in Calicut Medical College in 1983, and joined for MD Anaesthesia at Medical College Thiruvanathapuram in 1984, completed the course successfully in 1987.

Joined Amala Cancer hospital, Amalanagar in 1987, as consultant Anaesthesiologist, later joined AIMS as Assistant Professor and is continuing as Professor.

Member of IMA and Indian Society of Anaesthesiologist.

Passed MBBS from Government Medical College Calicut, under Calicut University in 1983, completed internship in 1984. In 1991, passed DA course from M P Shah Medical College Jamnagar, Gujrat under Saurashtra University and took DNB from Manipal center in 2000. Passed MD from Calicut Medical College under University of Calicut in 2002.

Started career as provisional tutor in Government Medical College, Thrissur in 1989. Subsequently joined as Lecturer in the same anaesthesiology department in 1992 and worked there for 8 years until 2000.

Worked as Senior Lecturer in Calicut Medical College from 2000 to 2002.

Promoted as Assistant Professor in 2002 and worked in Calicut and Thrissur Medical Colleges until 2004. Worked as Specialist in Anesthesiology and Intensive care, under Ministry of Health, Saudi Arabia from 2004 to 2008. Later joined Amala Medical College in October 2008 as Assistant Professor in Anaesthesiology. Currently working as Associate Professor in Amala Medical College.

Dr. Paul O Raphael

Passed MBBS from J.J.M. Medical College, Davengere under University of Mysore in 1990, completed Internship in 1991. In 1992, joined three year MD Anaesthesiology course as Post Graduate Resident at Father Muller's Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, under Manglore University and passed in 1995.

Started career as Lecturer in Government Medical College, Thrissur and subsequently joined as Assistant Professor in Anaesthesiology Department at Academy of Medical Sciences, Pariyaram and worked there for 6 years until 2002 April.

Was specialist in Anesthesiology and Intensive care in Nizwa hospital, under Ministry of Health at Sultanate of Oman from April 2002 to May 2011. Later joined Amala Medical College in July 2011 as Associate Professor in Anaesthesiology.
